Default New Blog...now What?

Hi Everyone.
My name is Jennifer and I've finally gotten to a point in my life where I know that I am supposed to be creating my art for a living. I got a small studio space that will allow me to pursue that, however I am still balancing a full time job as an art director. I feel that the content of my blog is interesting and will make people want to follow me and my art, however, I'm having a difficult time getting people to find the blog. Any ideas???
Thanks much.

Congrats on your new blog, and welcome aboard

For starters, there is plenty you can do to keep busy getting the word out.

Blog Directories and Blog Search Engines

While I'm sure you are excited about getting it up, one thing I would consider right away is to get your own domain versus promoting your blog under a blogspot.com domain. In the future, you want to fully control your domain so if you do need to make changes you are not stuck after investing a lot of effort promoting elegantjourney.blogspot.com. Since you are just starting out, I would do it now and then promote the blog.

Your blog looks very nice, however I would suggest to move the blog to your own domain. The second suggestion is to try to get some quality links from authoritative sites in your niche. You can also comment on relevant blogs and forums, which usually brings targeted traffic.

yes, try twitter.com to record your every move -- even from a cell phone

you will get lots a followers in short order

don't worry too much over the obvious like having a perfect .com name

if you want traffic you need to use lots of sporatic linking to sites and
ask google for a $50. adwords voucher

(you should also ping your site to all blog search mechanisms)

ask google.com to show you pinging services

Your blog looks nice. Well, if it is just a personal blog, I don't think it is necessary to have your own domain. Just enjoy blogging and sharing your interest with the rest.

Hi Jennifer,

I agree about getting your own domain and perhaps setting up a WordPress blog there.

No-one really seemed to notice that you said "...creating my art for a living". You should present a professional image from the beginning -- not only does it put you in a good place to focus on tranforming your creativity into a career but it will be far easier down the road to 'commercialize' your site for commission work etc.. It also offers a very real foundation for name recognition.

Congratulations on your new blog! I recommend you start promoting it by writing good content, commenting on other related blogs and of course use forums.
