You need to be specific. Different social media can and do work for different types of businesses. I am a strong believer that what you sell determines how you market.

I think for business purpose Facebook and LinkedIn are best sites. Facebook can provide you a lot of real traffic. So I suggest you to target these two social media sites and try to get as much traffic as you can.

Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin because I think most small businesses or owners are active in these platforms. Facebook is a great starting point as they work for every type of business and it's also more low maintenance than other platforms. With Twitter, you can quickly connect with other people around the world, interact with your customers. Linkedin is great for B2B as you can acquire customers through it and you can generate traffic for your site by joining groups and sharing your content.

Facebook ads don't work for everyone. When was the last time you clicked on a facebook ad?

Can depend a lot on what kind of product the business is trying to sell.
If this is something that can gather a lot of interest and is easily shared or recommended then Facebook is a good options to build a community and encourage the users to share the products or services with friends.

Its also indcredibly easy to target people using Facebook ad's and you can basically make the right kind of customer show up at your websites front door.

It depends greatly on who you're targeting and what your goal is. Twitter will help put your posts or your message in front of the most people but a large % of them won't do much with the information.

Facebook targeting will allow you to more clearly define your audience and has more options in terms of what you want to accomplish (clicks on a link, likes on a page, etc) and that can be beneficial as well. Their local ad awareness targeting is much better than the other platforms as well in my opinion.

In short: They'll all accomplish something but what are you trying to accomplish?
