Hi!

You don't mention if you're talking about links FROM your site or those that link to you. But there is a good post started here about a member starting a website (as a project) with nothing but good content and SEO. No back links. It may be worth following:

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Nofollow links can still give you traffic but don't provide you backlinks for your google pagerank. But I heard yahoo is taking into account both dofollow and nofollow links.

All links are useful, but don't just rely on backlinks for traffic.

When it comes to traffic, nofollow links are like any other ordinary link... nofollow links may help you in getting god referral traffic because they visible to user.

On the other hand, nofollow links are not crawled by search engines. You can use nofollow attributes with outgoing links that you don't trust.

The main purpose of No Follow link is to tell search engine that this link is not counted as genuine link so don't follow this.

There are many sites and blogs in which folks used to do regular irrelevant comment inorder to promote their site or to get more backlinks. They also do spamming also so moderator or owner of that site or blog put link as no follow so that search engine know that it is mostly irrelevant and not crawled on it for indexing.

But this links are used for increasing traffic. So concentrate more on Do follow link which is counted as genuine and search engine also follow it.

The reason for using nofollow links is to control the search engine once it is on your site. The engine will spend a limited amount of time on your site. You may wish it to spend that time on specific pages versus other. Example of page you may wished skipped would be forms or maybe pages that just show a photo. You may also wish to you nofollow link to help keep an engine on your site. It you provide a link for your user to reference relevant offsite material, you may not wish to have the engine follow that link out of your site.

So are you saying Yahoo is now treating nofollow links the same as regular links?

I don't think it does make any sense. Links are links and these are important.

If the website you are getting the link from is a high quality website then don't worry about whether or not the link is nofollow.

You shouldn't spend too much time overanalyzing whether one particular link is beneficial. Here is one way to look at it: If the people who visit that web page are in your target audience, then that link is beneficial. You have a chance to spread your name, get traffic, introduce your site, whatever. Not every link has to be about pushing your ranking higher.

If ranking higher is the only thing you are worried about, then you probably don't have a website that is worthy of ranking at all. Just go get the links and don't overanalyze things. Try to avoid spamming in the process.
