I use Facebook and Twitter.. For me they are the best for the following reasons:
1. They have many users.
2. Most are familiar with them.
3. They are very easy and convenient to use.

Gary makes a good point.
You should try all three and compare the results. If they are all contributing then you can continue to use them, and if not discontinue.
One positive point is that all three of these sites have very little costs associated with using them.

Good Luck,

Although Facebook is the defacto "social media god" right now, I believe that in time Google+ will take over.

It's like the Android vs. iPhone thing, iPhone are for the fadsters, it's popular, but very restricting, having everything HAVING to go through iTunes and all. Facebook is not very private and you as the end-user don't have much control. However, Google+ gives you much more control and freedom. You get to control who sees what and what you see yourself...pretty much with the same benefits and functionality as FB.

Thinking people recognize this now and in time more people will come to recognize this as well. I think so at least.

Creating a firm name in a social networking site would be good for a small business owner. Most specially if they would render a helpful desk in that social media platform, so that the client and prospect client can ask about the services or product the company may give to them.
