I almost gave up on Twitter campaigns. However, I have learned crazy useful things that could be done with my Twitter campaigns. I have setup 4 different accounts and grew the follower numbers (right now at 3k+ each) and used socialoomph and hootsuite. With the additional tips I have learned here, I am excited to implement another Twitter campaign. Thanks for this post!

I agree that twitter is needed mostly to generate leads. It won't generate income directly. Something to remember is that twitter followers belong to a comprehensive system. There should be SEO, PPC, forum posting, blogging, facebooking, youtube videos, etc. It really is a mountain of stuff. It takes a lot of time. I like to go to odesk to outsource a lot of it. I also use twitterfollowerexplosion.com to buy real twitter followers. There's other services like that on the web but watch out for scammers!

NEVER buy followers (or fans for that matter) - you are just wasting your money. Real followers, who are engaged and active with you, are gained by interacting on a one-to-one basis. This takes time but the results are truly worth it.

I agree with Russell. I can't believe people still think buying fans and followers is a good idea. The metric everyone should be looking at is engagement. Gaining followers on Twitter is easy, especially given the number of #Teamfollowback users flooding Twitter these days. For those just starting out, one of the best things you can do is to look at your competition's following and the lists they're on. Twitter lists are great for finding people who might be interested in what you have to say.

Well there are a lo t of sites available to increase twitter followers. Twiends.com is the one I've used before. Although these sites help you generate followers, but those followers don't pay you back as they are not self-interest followers, even most of them are webmasters like us.
