Lightbulb Online Marketing Woes ?

I am a professional, with my own business. I've always thought that quality performance (service) should market itself through word of mouth - personally, I'm a lawyer, my job isn't marketing, it's providing great legal services. But marketing is necessary, particularly if you're trying to build a new business.

After discovering problems and complaints with online marketing and related sites (like yelp), I'm now working with a company called RepX to put businesses (especially small ones!) in control of their online reputations and marketing, without having it consume all their time or money. Great businesses care about their customers and reputation - and those are the guys we are trying to help.

So... what are your experiences with or thoughts on online marketing? Experiences with Yelp? Constant Contact or similar sites? If you've used Facebook for marketing, what did you think of it?

We're trying to create a service that helps small businesses compete on quality and reputation, not just on price. If that's your type of business, please share your thoughts.

Yep! Exactly what I was thinking.... Out of the list I'm compiling, maybe selecting the top 10 or so that I think would provide me with the most traffic by online marketing

My biggest problem in IM is Google's stringent algorithm updates. Gone are the easy days. Now you have to be very careful on every move you make online.
