In this case, you may have good rankings, but the intent of those visitors is different. To explain it further, let me give you an example.

I breed labrador retrievers. At first, I wanted to rank for "labrador retrievers". And after a few months, I did. Lots of traffic, but actually no one would contact me about a labrador retriever puppy.

I then started ranking for "lab puppies", whereas the visitors were at a different phase in the buying process. They were looking for a puppy, and I had them. The difference was that people searching for a labrador retriever already had one--so they would come to the site and leave.

Take a look at the keywords you're ranking for and try to determine the user's intent and what they are going to be searching for when they really want what you're offering. It can mean a slight variation of the keywords that you're targeting, and it might be that you will get less traffic overall. But, you will end up getting more sales in the long run.
