Default 5 Tips To Get The Most Out Of Direct Mail Campaign At Low Cost

There is a good reason why businesses have been using direct mail for over 100 years – it works! Direct mail is highly targeted and has a much higher response rate than other forms of marketing. Nearly 8 in 10 consumers respond to direct mail by searching online or visiting the brand’s own website, a powerful demonstration of how direct mail can drive traffic and increase online sales.

Despite its proven power to deliver results, many businesses still worry about the costs involved. While it obviously costs more to send a piece of direct mail than it does to send an email, emails are far more likely to get ignored or deleted. Direct mail costs are more manageable than most companies think and return on investment is high. Here are 5 tips for how to keep costs down on your first direct mail campaign.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful article, Harry!! Many people think direct mail marketing is outdated. But if properly used, it can be more effective than all the alternative methods. I have heard a lot of them complaining about the fewer number of responses despite large amounts of money spent for direct mail marketing. Very low responses must be because they are not doing it correctly. I have been using Troi mailing services to do my direct mail marketing in Toronto. They do a great job and ROI is always higher than that for email campaigning.

Thank you for this. I've been considering direct mail for an upcoming product. Very helpful.

This is a great list. One rarely thought of item that I would add is partnering with a few other close but non-competing businesses, and all advertising on the same mailing piece. For example dividing a postcard into four squares, with each its own business. This saves on printing and postage because the costs are divided. Of course, response may go down due to divided attention, but actual return on investment percentages should be better.

That's an excellent idea David. I have seen some of the businesses do that.

100% Agreed. It works. Depends on your business but it definitely works. I also suggest that when you do mail out (Samples) for example. Instead of getting a third party to make a whole bunch of them, try 3d printing them yourselves.

Like this wallet for example:

If you can't afford to buy a 3d printer just yet, you can always just go to your local college or university and get them to do it (Most have one now). This way you only pay when someone orders a sample or what not.
