The website domain name i want is being used at the moment as a hobbiest info site.
I want to enhance it and turn it into something bigger and better.
How would i go ahead trying to buy it and how should i aproach this ? Has anyone had any experience of this?

Just do a quick who is search and see who owns it. If they are private then you will have to contact someone to contact them for you. Many times godaddy will be able to for a small fee. You want to make sure that your offer is good but not over the top. The other thing that you have to keep in mind is that once they know you are looking for it, then the price will be going up. Remember things are only worth what someone is willing to pay, and supply and demand controls that. You want it, they have it, and they will want more once they know.

Sometimes, if you are buying a domain name, it might be better for you since most likely that domain name has been out on the road and since many are concerned with SEO's (I should probably write a thread on this), the older a website is, the better their chances of ranking higher. Let me start that SEO thread now.

I bought this site http://www.showmelocal.com/profile.aspx?bid=4955 from a competitor here in Tampa who went out of the roof cleaning business. I changed it, and it ranks well.
Any OLD domain is good, especially if you "revive it" by adding fresh content and new back links! Google loves OLD Domains

I am willing to bet that the owner of the domain name you want will ask a crazy price for it.

Although it is better to use an old domain name, remember that it can come with some baggage too! Things like 'bad neighborhoods' and stuff like that.

I wouldn't wait. Get a new domain name and get the HOME PAGE up as soon as you can. Get your Google Webmaster tools account (FREE) and add the URL. They will give you a META code (or other methods) to add to your page to verify. You will be crawled in a day or two.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I think, you can try on "GoDaddy.com", it's a great web hosting site with small cost. I hope, there you will get your budgeting domain name.
