Post Google Acts To Demote Distasteful Web Sellers

Quote:
Google announced on Wednesday that it had changed the way it ranks search results so that unscrupulous merchants would find it harder to appear prominently in searches...
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/02/te...02ranking.html

The gist: the search engine previously allowed negative review to contribute to ranking with the same weight as positive reviews, causing some merchants to encourage negative reviews. Now they're changing that.

Hopefully, we don't see the opposite effect where unscrupulous people in the industry try and leave untrackable bad reviews against one another. It would definitely be a sad day in the biz.

I find such a decision quite fair as still we have some unfair sellers who can cheat people.

Just FYI, Google tweaks itself occasionally to address the issue of poor reviews amounting to favorable backlinks. I suspect the most recent came as a result of this:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/28/bu...pagewanted=all

And Google's response:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/...s-bad-for.html

I hope it works.

Google always make changes and I think no need to worry about it.
Only one think that keep in mind is do the link building on quality pages.
Quality page i.e related niche, dofollow, having good pr.

I think then no one can stop your keywords to get good ranking in SERP.

I am not sure that they are going to count bad reviews against you at the same time. This would be to easy to sit and slam a company with bad reviews to make sure that they are not showing up in the ranks and you move above them. I would assume that the gurus thought of that before making the change.
