They all have their own unique benefits towards helping small businesses. I would suggest you utilize all three, and track your progress so you can see how it affects your business personally.

Facebook and Twitter should work really well for small business owners. LinkedIn is more of a professional network. The subscribers primarily use it to expand their professional opportunities.

I have stated this before and belive that it depends on the type of business and where your market/customers are. For me Linkedin works well for our security information website because there are security professionals as well as business owners/managers ther. For our tech service business we use Facebook because we can reach more of a local market etc. With another website we are designing we will use a YouTube channel because we can reach our market there as well as us having a place to showcase the videos we produce.

I think nothing. You have to make your company known at least to some people and only after this you have to promote it at this social media resources.

Facebook for big business owners, twitter helps too. Linkedin is for affiliates. Kind of like that.

But I think Facebook is more beneficial among all of them. But all of them has different uses to different users.

I also use Facebook, Stumbleupon, twitter and reddit. These all are really good for business owners. From these sites we can get more and more traffic which is very profitable to our business.

Hi smallbus01

I would have to agree with BSI and Gary Barzel when they say that it depends on the business that you run. Can you give us a little bit more information on your product/service?

But it also depends on what you want from the social networking in
general. Your goal should help you decide.

Facebook is HUGE and, of all the sites you mentioned, it is by far the most social. It also has the biggest variety of demoographics using it - it seems most people have a Facebook account these days. Although that doesn't mean that everyone on there will want to engage with your business.

If your goal is brand building and getting to know your fans and really engaging with them (and letting them get to know you and your business), then Facebook is for you.

Twitter is not so much a social network, as more of a information sharing site. You can definitely build up relationships on it, but unless there is a common interest this tends to be fleeting.

If you have a lot to share and want to learn more about your industry then give Twitter a go.

LinkedIn is a much more professional site, but don't let that put you off. You can make some great connections and even find potential employees (depending on your business).

With all of these sites, what you get out of them all comes down to how much effort you put in. And remember that all these types of sites are a two-way street: don't just broadcast, engage and share.

The best thing to remember before you go jumping in however, is to have a plan: What do you want out of social media and social networking?

If you need help with this then let me know.

Default All of the above

You can post to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter... as well as Tumblr, Blogger, Wordpress

You can also connect with other small businesses that with share your news with their contacts as well.

Best of, you actually get SEO from these posts, which you can't get from any of the social networks.

It's definitely worth a look.
