Default Callcenter

In everyday life I am a call center software administrator for big companies. Therefore I am intrested if you use some call center software or what telephone system do you use in your business.

We once setup an entire call center & telephone switch board using VOIP. Using this, we connected a large supermarket chain (approx. 20 locations). We used Asterisk ( http://www.asterisk.org/ ). We had it connectd to an ISDN line for real world telephone calls, as well as over IP for LAN/WAN calls. There are multiple hardware devices (phones) that support VOIP, as well as some software applications to be able to use the computer's Mic and speakers/headphones.

A small snippet from their site:
Asterisk is software that turns an ordinary computer into a voice communications server. Asterisk powers IP PBX systems, VoIP gateways, conference servers and more. It is used by small businesses, large businesses, call centers, carriers and governments worldwide. Asterisk is free and open source.
The recommended system OS we used for this back then, was called 'whitebox', a linux based on redhat ( http://whiteboxlinux.org/ ), although I will be trying to set this up on a slackware system in the near future.

The quality of the calls really depend on how much resource and $$ you wish to spend. This depends on hardware, VOIP protocols (the free protocols are not too bad, but for high quality audio, the commercial protocols are advisable).

Overall a nice little project to play with, and not to forget since it runs on *nix, its extremely stable.

Hi there, it really depends on your needs. How many seats your call centre is, call capacity and whether you are a inbound or outbound call centre (or both..) I can help you out with a little more information so that you get the best option for your requirements.

These are the top companies for business telephone services

1- Phone Power
2- ITP
3- Ring Central
4- Lingo
5- Vonage
6- Skype

I suggest people who are going to read this post that you need to see some competitive surveys for having the best out of these.
