Default Marketing Budget

Two questions that I would love to hear your thoughts on. For a small business starting on a small marketing budget, do you think allocating $1,000 will produce any results? Is that too small?

It depends on what kind or type of business you want to start with. Small business like what?

This is a question with no right answer. I would consider what your average profit is per sale, and then try to squeeze as many sales as you can in that $1000 budget, making sure you stay profitable. For example, if you can profit $20 per sale and get 100 sales or more with $1000, you're probably in good shape.

I hope that helps to start you in the right direction. Feel free to post a bit more about your situation to get more specific feedback.

Your question is quite vague and there are lots of possible answers. Mind clearing your post a little more so we may respond aptly.

Hi lady:
The amount of money you invest in advertisement is not the most important; the most important is the strategy you use to invest it.
Good luck with your business!

Any amount will work, I have people spending $500/month of Google, obviously they are not running national campaigns, only local searches, but it is VERY effective, ,, its just important to be very selective with the keywords that you are bidding on.... Good luck!

I mean 1000 us budget is a good start for a well developed campaign of ppc, though I see you need to identify even more what your target is, and then you'll be able to bring traffic and to develop a good strategy to make money with your business.

Well I guess a good ppc campaign may get some traffic, I guess focusing on organic migh be a good idea, but a grand is a good start and will guarantee even some conversions, check the articles on this page, itsclickzilla.com.

Seth Godin wrote an interesting piece a few weeks ago that's very relevant to your question. In brief, he asks: So, why, precisely, do you have an ad budget?

A budget of $1000 dollars in not too big or too small. What you really want to do is to break down your budget into smaller buckets and then use those as efficiently as possible. ie...
  • Columbia Brands $100
  • Columbia Jackets $200
  • Columbia Backpacks During September $400
  • Columbia Shorts During Summer $200

Once you break everything down, then you will get a better idea of how your ads are working for you. At that point you can add and subtract from your campaigns.
