Before even looking at advertising in any form like online, offline, social media etc...You need to understand the need to measure and track your efforts.
Example: Your business phone, so where does the business come from when your customer calls your phone? Is he/she a new customer or old customer...I like the idea is you are measuring and tracking.
Try this: At the end of the reason for the call ask this question:
"Can I ask you where did you find this phone number."
They will answer: Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yelp, Yellow Pages...etc...Then mark that down on piece of paper referencing that place. If you sold something also make down the value of the business.
There are three easy ways to increase profit:
1) Increase your client base,
2) Increase Your average Sale,
3) Increase the total purchases per month.
My favorite print tool is the business card. It's 10 bucks for 250 cards. It's also the perfect print piece to test a new marketing strategy.
Test different call to action statements with what I call "ask triggers" on different cards. Everybody can afford 10 bucks to test a new headline.
Example: Call this phone number today to get the special gift. Just "Ask for X." The ask trigger measures and tracks the offer.
So how do we use the business card with our best customers. I am talking about your Raing Fan.
Every business has the Raving Fan and here is how you leverage their enthusiasm. Create a business card with a free gift. Restaurant it's a free coffee/muffin, movie tickets, hair salon...etc...
Then ask a select group of raving fans to hand out those cards to people that deserve the gift. Oh you need to personalize these on the backside.
Example: The name on the back is Joe. So when Joe presents the gift he adds "Just tell Mary the owner of X business that Joe sent you. She will take care of you."
You are showing respect to Joe by entrusting your gift to him and Joe is finding you a new client that now feels special. Hey the boss is going to take care of me. How cool is that!
Again every card that you get measure and track. Last month Joe sent 20 people to your business and they each spent 35 bucks per visit.
Bottom line you need to measure and track all marketing all of the time...
Sometime the simple ways are most effective...RR
