directories Are useless now a days thats what every one is saying . but if i got some free directory ( free directories those don't want back link for approval and don't want any money to approve your site ) because it take just 2 or 3 minute to submit my site on directories . so i won't mind if you have 300 list of free directories

What "acwebguru" said IMHO why not get relevant links from sites in your niche you may even get some traffic along with the link...

I think directory submission has some effect but its only a part of the whole SEO project.

I have used it in the past but find it both time consuming and expensive.

Directories aren't useless if you find the ones that show up in Google and Yahoo as backlinks. That has been my experience at least.

I said this in another post, but I've been using www.directorymaximizer.com to submit sites to around 1000 free directories. The cost is $.10 per submission. You don't get every submission to convert to a listing. But it's quite economical.

Free directory submission takes time to reflect, besides there are a lot of link building strategies that offer far better results.

Directory submission is good way but it can make or break your site's ranking. Few tips to avoid mistakes and make the most out of directory link building.
1. Choose the best directories.
2. Watch your competition.
3. Look for topical niche directories related to your market
4. If you are targeting any kind of regional / local market, use as many local / regional directories as you can find.
5. Do not use the same anchor texts in all your directory links
