Default New Article - How to Create a Favicon for Your Web Site

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/kal.../0427_kj1.html

Some Snippets:

"Favicon makes the site stand out from all the others in your favorites list. If you click on that site, the Favicon will even load next to the URL in your browser address bar from now on. "

"Using your favorite graphics package or image manipulation software, reduce the image down to 16 pixels wide by 16 pixels high, being careful to preserve the image resolution. This is the tricky bit, because you might find your chosen image looks fantastic at the original size and downright silly at 16 x 16 pixels! Keep experimenting until you are happy with the finished icon. "

You can also create a favicon from an existing image using the following site:

I love favicons. I'm always surprised when I bookmark a site anymore and a favicon is NOT present. I think it is possibly one of the most overlooked, yet effective, branding tools.

Very awesome, been trying to make a favicon for my online store for a few months now, this seems like it will be a simple solution.

Thank you for sharing!

I just checked my favicon and it shows up in my Opera browser, but I can't get it to show up in Internet Explorer. Weird.

Internet Explorer has always been a bit funky with the favicons. I was told that if you click on icon next to your url and "jiggle" it that the favicon appears. I've never had success, however. Try bookmarking yourself, sometimes that does it.

Figures, odd things for an odd person. (I see it in Firefox too.)

St0n3y: Jiggle it huh? Well, it works for the toilet handle.

Here's another favicon maker:

http://www.chami.com/html-kit/services/favicon/

This is Chami.com's favicon converter. Since I use HTML-Kit as an editor I noticed this when I was getting an update.

Best of luck to all,

Jay,
