Default New Article - How To Optimize For Yahoo!

Authored by: Ross Dunn

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/dun.../0918_rd1.html

A Snippet:

Algorithmically Yahoo is Google’s much younger sibling. I say this because many of the requirements for a successful ranking mirror Google’s requirement about 4 years ago and they sum up to one distinct fact; optimize your content boldly on Yahoo and you will be rewarded.

Default Yahoo Search Submit

Doesnt Yahoo Search Submit kind of ruin Yahoo's natural/organic results? Its a pay-to-play model that skews any organically SEO'd sites looking for a good natural listing. What they are saying is 'you should continue to SEO your pages but you will need to pay us for your site to get listed? I guess eventually Yahoo will be known as the 'Pay as you Go' search engine. That sucks, IMHO

All Yahoo Search Submit guarantees is inclusion in the index and frequent re-spidering (so your changes get picked up quickly).

Search Submit does not guarantee rankings, nor -- according to Yahoo -- do Search Submit pages get any kind of boost. There would be, uhm, issues with the FTC if they were to give a rankings boost to these pages without disclosing the paid relationship in their SERPs, so I'm inclined to believe them.

According to Yahoo, ranking is still based on "relevance." All Search Submit is supposed to do is get you in the game. Once they're in the index (whether through "natural" spidering or Search Submit), every page is supposed to stand or fall on its own merits.

I don't think Yahoo is ever going to become a pure "pay to play" portal, at least not until they decide they like shooting themselves in the foot.

Very interesting Article. I have been indexed on Yahoo before Google. But to me Google is more valuable in terms of exposure.

I agree that the Google egg is a harder crack. I have number 1,2 or 3 ranking on yahoo for deck cleaner, deck cleaners, deck cleaning, and deck stains. Google I'm lucky organically if I am on the fifth page (I know it has to do with the way my pages are coded). The funny thing is, i have no idea how I beat company's like Thompsons, Wolman's and Cabot's.. it just happened LOL
