Default New Article - Hide And Speak: WordPress For Content Management

Authored by: Jennifer Laycock

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/laycock/010251.html

A Snippet:

Once Abigail had decided to pair up with me to offer bento sets for sale on my bento blog, we needed to move into development mode. One of the biggest challenges facing Bento Yum in this regard was the fact that Abigail does not have a web development background. As I spent more time looking through information about WordPress I became convinced that this was actually the perfect system for our little business.

Default

I've been preaching the value of WordPress as a "poor man's CMS" for some time now. In fact, I use WP for almost every site I launch these days, and I'm slowly going back and converting all my existing sites as well.

I highly recommend the SEO Title Tag plugin for anyone interested in optimizing a WP based site for the search engines.

Default Staging a WP blog using JumpBox

We use Wordpress too as the CMS for our website and have found it very convenient. Our site itself is an instance of a WP JumpBox. Apparently I can't post the URL as I'm new to this forum... but it's just JumpBox dotcom.

What's neat about using a JumpBox is you avoid all the installation hassle. If you're planning on creating a new blog hosted at an ISP you can work locally to populate all your content and then use the export/import feature in WP to publish your site all at once to a remotely-hosted instance. Waiting for the lag time between page refreshes when authoring a bunch of content remotely can be painful.

cheers

Sean

Default Thanks for the great idea!

Thank you for this article, Jennifer. When I first saw it come through in the newsletter, I bookmarked it knowing it would come in handy sooner or later. That time finally came a few weeks ago when I was asked to set up a Web site for my town's little league. I'm still adding content and haven't yet set up the authors, but so far, Wordpress has made getting the site started very easy. It looks like I should be able to set permissions to give each coach access to their own team page for announcements.

I use Wordpress.com for my own blog, but didn't realize that Wordpress.org offered so much flexibility. Your article made me wonder why I didn't think of that before.

Thanks again!
