With the apparent failure of SEMPO, a new initiative has been formed by Calgary-based SEO Ian McAnerin. McAnerin envisions two unique arms of the SMA-NA, a combination of one non-profit arm to act as a lobbying and event promoting organization with another for-profit arm offering benefits to members such as discounts, special offers, and members-only RFPs. A similar model is used by one of the world's largest industry associations, the American Marketing Association.

Nice article. Thanks for pointing it out.

I am one of the members of the working group for the SMA-NA. We are still in our early days, but hope to help start an organization that will be something people are proud to be a part of.

We've received tremendous support from the SMA-UK and SMA-EU working groups, and their input has been priceless.

We still have some work to do before we can start sharing a lot of our ideas for the organization, but I'm happy to say that I've been joined by some very bright, enthusiastic, and dedicated people who want to build something positive for its members and the industry.

We're excited about the possibilities we see in front of us. Hopefully we will have a site up soon where we can share ideas with people interested, and where they can provide their comments and ideas.

Communication is one of the keys we see to the success of this organization. We're also trying to make sure that we approach everything in an intelligent and methodical manner, and some of that means taking a careful look at what has come before, and paying attention to how the organization will beneift members and the industry.

We will keep you in mind as we come out with future announcements.
