Default New Article - The True Cost Of An In-House SEO Campaign: Why An SEO Firm Can Increase

Authored by: Scott Buresh

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/bur.../0607_sb1.html

A Snippet:

When a company is considering embarking upon a search engine optimization campaign, the first discussion that normally is had is whether to take care of the campaign in house or to hire an outside SEO firm. Companies making this choice need to compare the actual cost of an in-house campaign if you are expecting the same type of results that you would get with an outside SEO firm.

Excellent article by Scott! ...and I say this as a practicing in-house SEM. He covers the bases well and presents a well thought out case and a solid list of considerations for any business.

It's nto always a simple as "In-house will be cheaper". In-house often takes a significant investment in people, or at least, a person, so businesses would be wise to consider the depth of their need.

Sure, $10,000 a month for 3 months of work might be an expensive item to work into the budget if you're going to outsource, but contrast that with an employee's salary (these skills don't come cheap), the ongoing training they need, memberships and sundry bit like paid-for tools, etc., and suddenly outsourcing begins to look like a bargain. ...and we haven't even mentioned employee benefits that a business must offer/cover.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in in-house 110% - but it's not a quick path anywhere, IMO. It's a considered move that a business must make after considering the big picture and long-term company plans.
