Default New Article - The Social Fabric Of Search

Authored by: Gord Hotchkiss

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/hot.../0205_gh1.html

A Snippet:

There seems to be a lot of buzz around social search but exactly how is social search shaping our search experience and why we should be looking at it in the future? We're going where we haven't been before and it helps us when people who share our interests can guide the way.

Good article. Although the marketers glasses are a bit thick for me.

Both Stumbleupon and Digg have emerged as significant drivers of traffic in recent months so as marketers, we have to keep these sites on our radar.
Yes, significant traffic for marketers. But for the plumber and furniture store (i.e. a marketer's clients) not so much so. When others start telling us their site was dugg, that's another thing.

I agree with Logan. There's no question to importance of being involved with social media. But I think we're all going to be realizing fairly soon that not every media outlet is appropriate for every site. Digg is a good example. It can be great for sites of a technical nature, but unlikely to mean much for non techie sites.

I think we're going to see 2007 as a year where more niche specific social communities appear and marketers learn to see appropriate social media for their clients.

Me four. But even if a specific site does not need social media, you never know.. someone who has access to the social media might get the word out about this site and that and the target market of this site who do not have access to the social media might be interested to take a look at this site. Kind of like word of mouth.
