Default New Article - When Your Online Reputation Management Firm Needs ORM

Authored by: Jennifer Laycock

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/laycock/009276.html

A Snippet:

What people say about you online can make or break you in the business world. Companies realize this and some firms are starting to offer online reputation management services. But what happens when an online reputation management service puts itself in a position for a little criticism of it's own?

My first foray into the search marketing world was interviewing with a few companies in Houston who I thought might benefit from my offline marketing experience. One firm had a telemarketing department phoning small businesses around the country and offering to create a website AND get them ranked on the first page of Google, et.al. for a one-time fee of $795 and $200/mo. for the term of the agreement (something like that.)

I'm thinking "How are they going to do that?" When the supervisor left the room, I asked one of the salesmen. He said, "We buy pay-per-click ads." This is a company featured prominently in the Houston Business Journal for "fastest growing" a few years ago. I wonder how they rate today.

I interviewed with only two other SEO firms and remembered what I told myself 20+ years ago when I started my first business: If these clowns can succeed, there's no way I can fail.

Default New Article - Website Analysis: Will Search Engines Draw a Blank or Give You a Rank?

Authored by: Derek Fulford

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/art.../0125_rc1.html

A Snippet:

One of the most common website analysis questions asked by search engine neophytes is, "Is my site optimized?", followed by, "How can I tell?" and, ultimately, "How can I tell if my competitor's site is optimized?".

I really enjoyed the article on online reputation management as that is what my companies does. It is an exciting new industry that is growing fairly quick with some major players now getting involved. I am not sure how those one time fee services really do the job as a lot of times managing is more successful then trying to get something taken down. Having a background in public relations as well for large companies gives me an advantage as like you said it can backfire on you if you run around trying to get bloggers to take down something they said. It is a very strategic thing and is more of a monthly fee service than a one-time fee service in my opinion. I would love to talk more about online reputation management to get more opinions on what others think.
