Default New Article - Wordtracker Or KeywordDiscovery?

Authored by: Jill Whalen

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/wha.../0115_jw1.html

A Snippet:

I notice you always promote both KeywordDiscovery and WordTracker. I am trying to decide which one to subscribe to. Do you have a preference? I noticed that KeywordDiscovery promotes the fact they use data going back at least 12 months, which I guess is good if you have a seasonal business pattern.

My main problem with KD is the fact that you sign up for a month, then they automatically try to bill your credit card the following month regardless. For me this is WRONG wrong wrong.

If you sign up for a months service, then you should be billed for a month, and reminded closer to the date, that your subscription is due to run out. I was VERY annoyed when I got billed the second time, as I was simply trying it out to see what it was like. (it was during the growing pains stage that Jill spoke of).

I have known David from Trellian for a while online, so I thought I would give it a whirl out of loyalty and curiosity really.

The automatic repeat billing attempt has now meant that I am not a fan of keyword discovery, and would not recommend it to small business owners because of this. They really just need one off hits, and Wordtracker will do this. use overture, then WT paid, and then run a live adwords campaign. You get all the data you will need, and it will be 100% accurate to boot.

Horses for courses though I guess.

I thought I might spend some time in clarifying our policy.

The KeywordDiscovery service is a "Subscription" service and as with most subscription services has a renewal feature, which can be de-activated at anytime.

Plus at every stage of the process we make sure that we point this out.

For example on the subscription order page we state:
Quote:
Standard Subscription (monthly)
In our terms and conditions page that you need to accept, right at the top of the page in the 1st section we state:
Quote:
KeywordDiscovery is a subscription service. All new subscriptions are automatically renewed on the expiry date. You have the ability to unsubscribe or cancel the automatic renewal at any time. Cancellations need to be made at least 1 day before the current subscription expiry date to avoid automatic renewal of your subscription.
The confirmation email that we sent every time a charge is made states:
Quote:
Subscription Length: 1 Month
Expiry Date: 2007-02-13

Your monthly subscription will be automatically renewed on the listed expiry date. To change your monthly billing options please login to your account click on the "Account" link.
And finally, customers that despite the above forget to deactivate the auto-renew feature, we happy refund as well.

So we do try to make sure that we clearly point out this policy, give clear instructions on how to manage your subscriptions and work with customers that forget.

We are also adding the ability to de-select the auto-renew option directly from the subscription order form. This is due to go live shortly as well.

I do hope I have addressed your concerns.

Cheers
David

Welcome David. It's great to see you being active in joining the conversation.

I'm using KD these days and liking it. No issues with the subscription issue mentioned in this thread since the company pays the bills.

But...

Have you thought of maybe adding a new option to the order form for just one-month of usage, no renewal involved (unless requested)?

Just a thought....

Whoops - yes, indeed it is above. Sorry about that. Good call, regardless of my brain cramp.

And that makes it superb then. There is no question that KD is better than WT, ABSOLUTELY none! (IMO) the only problem I had was with the auto renew being compulsory, as many people simply forget due to time pressures, especially sole traders.

Nice to se you here David, and glad this matter has been dealt with

Pleasure..

Now if anyone here could send over feature requests that would be appreciated. We have many already, but getting users feedback as to which ones to work on 1st is very much appreciated.

Cheers
David
