Default New Article - How Much Information Should SEO's Reveal To Their Clients?

Authored by: David Wallace

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/wal.../0926_dw1.html

A Snippet:

There are some of those in the field of SEO that refuse to disclose their methods and processes to clients. Should SEOs keep their procedures and strategies secret from clients? Should their clients sit patiently by, waiting for the end results and not be concerned about the process that gets them there?

I get a big kick out of this idea of proprietary-ness in SEO.

David makes some very good points. For me it comes down to: if the client knows what you're doing they'll appreciate more how much they don't want to or can't (mostly due to time) do it themselves.

There was a great post on SEO Book in which Aaron Wall is offering "Link Bait" ideas. One of those which he recommended (or one of those commenting) for Real Estate Agents, was a step by step for sale by owner guide.

The idea was that eventually most of the people who used that guide would come back and need an agent. Who better than the one who'd helped them try to sell it themselves.

I think the same is true of SEO and web site promotion.

We all know: keywords, content & links make a site. But how to go about developing those is another matter - and more importantly, if small businesses are the target client, who has the time.

Cheers,
Will

Nice article, and I agree 100%. Normally with the clients I chat too on the phone they say . Hells teeth, I didn't realise there was so much involved.

Default SEO for small companies

In his article, David mentioned that there are many good SEO companies to support small or large businesses. We are a very small business and I have not found SEOs who work with small businesses -- who do not use SEO spam tactics and have a good reputation. I looked at Internet Advancement, but there was considerable negative feedback on blogs and such.

Can anyone suggest a couple of SEOs who can work with a moderate budget. We are a single product company and do not need optimization for large numbers of words, just a handful.

Thanks,
Jane

While that is true, Just to clarify, I do not recall any mention of that in the article.

With that being said, I'm sure there are plenty of good SEO companies who can still help small business. The problem is that rates are all over the place. While we work with both large and small business, our rates are not cheap and therefore many small businesses just starting out cannot afford us.

I guess it really depends on what you think of as a "moderate" budget. Does that mean a $20,000 annually, $1,000 or even less?
