Many of you likely have tried to place your website link on a Wikipedia page. What most probably happened is a zealous Wikipedia editor likely removed your link very quickly because the prevailing view is that appending your external link to the bottom of a previously created page adds little to the community and likely only benefits you.

interesting twist maybe worth trying, but kind of reminds of the feeling I have with those that become odp editors for their own benefit. Seems like another can of seo worms if many do it. Suggestions that don't scale if many do it make me wonder as the potential outcome is to further deminish the authority of that source (i.e. odp).

Also on the Wikipedia buzz radar this past week, there is a new wikipedia search function that allows you to search for all links to a domain within the site. Thus, how many times is your domain listed in wikipedia.

A wildcard may be used, at the start of the name only, for example [*.searchengineguide.com] will return all citations of searchengineguide within wikipedia.org.

See where this is going ....
1) Become authority
2) Authority deminished
3) Value of Authority links deminished

and the beat goes on. for now at least it seems. ODP links used to carry considerable weight, as do Wikipedia now. ODP's authority/value has deminished over time. ODP links no longer provide the value they once did. Wikipedia next? maybe its not best to flock with the masses.

Voluntary or non profit organisations do not get the chance to expose their services due to lack of funds, s fact which at the end would mainly penalise the targeted group. At our voluntary non profit organisation I face those situations on daily bases. We provide support to victims of human rights abuses. To reach people you need resources. I believe that Google and alexa should pay attention to this fact and try to support those who are supporting vital causes!
