Question isnt putting an image of an arrow against Google's TOS

Hi,

Thanks for the great article!

Just one question on the idea of putting an image next to the google adds. According to my understanding of google's TOS, we are not supposed to bring any unnatural attention to the add it self. Can you please comment on why the image idea, especially the one with the arrow, is not against the TOS

Thanks!

It is dangerously close to a TOS violation. Spacing is the key...

I seem to recall (and don't quote me, becuase I didn't go look) that the deal is, you can't use any graphics that are tailored to the content of your ads. But, you CAN use generic images. For example, you could use a general search style image like a magnifying glass, or a question mark.

Hopefully Logan will stop by and add his thoughts as he knwos far more about AdSense than I do.

You can use images next to ads, but when I read the article what stood out to me was -

Quote:
Place arrows or images next to your ads to draw attention to them.
From a wording standpoint, this could probably be phrased better as googles terms do state that you are not to ...-

Quote:
encouraging users to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers' sites as well as drawing any undue attention to the ads.
The images next to ads is commonly used without problem based on my understanding, the "arrows' pointing to ads imo crosses the line of 'drawing any undue attention to the ads".

Overall it is a good article well worth digesting, and all advice is solid.

Another tip .... when using multiple ad blocks as recommended consider which ads load first and where. My experience is that the higher paying ads are listed first, so you want the ads that load first to be in the most prominent position.

Thanks Logan!

To note...Kalena has published an update that clarifies that section of the article. I'll have it reflected on our own site later this afternoon.

I think that any image such as arrows and such is way to close to a TOS violation. But I have seen this image trick on websites before and it looked pretty good.

I think Logan's got it right with the images. You shouldn't point arrows at the ads or anything like that since it's clearly an attempt to try to get someone to click on the ad which isn't allowed. However simply place images near the ads should be fine and I believe it's also very effective.

If there are ever questions you can always email the AdSense team and ask them if your ads are ok. In my limited communication with them I've had prompt responses and the team was always helpful.

One thing everyone should remember in regards to AdSense (or any other contextual advertising) is that it's by no means a get rich quick scheme. It's considered passive income, but you generally have to do a lot of work to get that passive income. There's a lot of experimenting and testing that will go into it and you still need to draw a significant amount of traffic to the ads before you'll see any real money.

I've been thinking about implementing the ads next to images style and this thread brought a lot of clarification over my doubts about it's legality to google adsnese. Many thanks!
