Does anyone recommend any accounting software for my business?

Any recommendations would be appreciated

That would depend on what kind of business you have, the size of your company and what specific features you need. "Accounting software" covers a lot of territory.

For instance, if you have employees, you might need accounting software that either includes payroll capabilities or that integrates easily with your existing payroll service provider or software. If you're a sole proprietor, not so much.

If your business is project-oriented, you might want job costing functionality. But if you're retailing physical products you purchase ready-made from elsewhere (or even drop-shipping), then job costing wouldn't do you much good.

If you can give us a better idea of what, specifically, you need, we might be able to give you some intelligent recommendations.

If you have a small, one-person business, Quickbooks is relatively inexpensive and easy to use. It integrates with many banking systems as well.

I have had a look round and came across Sage 50 Accounts, this software has an exceptionally long list of application that would make mine and my accountants 100 times as easy. Before I make this investment can anyone advise me if this is a worth while investment for me? And if anyone has experience of such software, if so what were the pros and cons?

I'm hoping to give Postbooks a whirl with some accountants now that tax season is dying down. It's free and open source, runs on a very stable database (that you can query from other apps -- or a command line if you like) and looks to be quite powerful. I'll write something on my site about it, but it might be a few months first. I want to make sure with the accountants that it's got everything a small business owner might need.

FreshBooks (Free, 4.5 stars) is easily the best of the free small business applications we've tested. Zoho Invoice (Free, 4 stars), a member of the Zoho software family, is also a very solid selection with its well-designed interface, many import options, and custom fields. Outright (Free. 3.5 stars), like Zoho Invoice, has an intuitive interface, but builds upon that by giving users the ability to download credit card transactions. At the back of the pack are Billing Boss (Free, 2.5 stars), Intuit Billing Manager (Free, 3 stars), and Wave Accounting (Free, 2 stars). These applications may not have scored the highest marks in our in-depth reviews, but they can prove valuable to the small business owner who wants to handle the accounting basics on the cheap.

Regards

From my experience, I would have to say that Quickbooks is your best choice. Although it is not free it offers many features and is easy to use.

Good luck with your choice.

How much functionality did you want? There are tons of different options out there but I think that the best fit always depends on which features you need the most...

Which type of business you are running? how many employees in there? these would be the questions you might have to answer to find a better solution.
