Default Should I Include Coupon Sales In Gross Sales?

I am not sure if I include Groupon type coupon sales in gross sales?

When I take Regular coupon, I include discounted price in daily gross sales.

For Groupon type coupons, I am not actually taking any money.
I just get the check for whole coupons that were sold which is nothing compared to the regular price.

Should I deduct those coupon amount from daily sales? or just leave it? (maybe I should include those for future sale of my business )

so what do you think?
-------------------------------
this is not related to topic.
I think Groupon type marketing is really depend on your type of business.

If you have very high markup products, already have a room and need just little $ to add people , then go ahead.

you can make those companies very rich even though all they do is putting you on their website, and actually shoot yourself.

anyways, I really hate hate hate this type of deal but I have to since my competitors doing it.
(first you get fraction of sales: 25%, second the customer with those coupon behave differently aka very cheap)

Hi Masterh,

I think you should include Groupon sales into your daily sales totals. A sale is a sale and is still revenue coming into the business in some form. One idea you may consider is to not only track the coupons in regular sales but also track them in a separate column as well this way you could have the best of both worlds and manipulate, research and chart sales the as needed.

i believe that groupon-type sales should rather be regarded as advertising campaigns and be handled separately from the gross sales.
if you believe that groupon charges you too much - you can look out for its clones in your area, the new ones will be willing to share more with you and still have a big subscriber list

If you receive a check for coupons that will be used in the future then you should account for this as deferred revenue. When the coupons are actually used or expire you would transfer the amount from deferred revenue to actual sales and deduct the corresponding inventory.

Well, what you are said is right and i agree with you. But have you consider the question of deferred revenue really?
