Default Still useful

I have submitted to a lot of local directories and have seen significant results in google. Still seems to be important.

It is still useful but the backlinks are not much powerful but there are many web directories that i would recommend getting listed on are Best of the web directory, DMOZ, yahoo directory.

Just to add up into it. Directory submission has it's own way of being so useful for the site. I beg to dis-agree for those who says that Directory Submission cannot make to be backlink for our sites, of course this is a False believe, it just really depends on how does your directory listing will be popular or most know in that directory. Also consider the reputation of the Directory Submission site that you are going on, of course the more highly reputable site you wanted to list on, the more the possibility your listing will be more visited than on other site. Also consider going to premium listings and other offered that goes to offer by the directory submission site. Just want to say that Directory Submission site is very useful, if it will be used in the excellent way.

It is still useful. Directory submission is an important part of link building campaign. If you submit in high PR directory and in a right category where other related websites are present then directory submission can still do wonders as SEO point of view. Manual directory submission gives us lots of benefits. It allow us one way link. We can also get online visibility by directory submission.

it works for referral traffic if you find a decent one but directory submission has been abused over the last few years.

I totally agree. Article directory submission is still very effective in helping your SEO. Article directory submission also provides additional traffic and recognition for authority.

To be more effective, you should be submitting articles to directories that are recognized by Google and to those spammy sites. submitting articles to spammy sites is a waste of time.

Latest SEO buzz is that links to your site from DMOZ and the Yahoo Directory ($299 annual fee) are the only 2 directory listings that will help your page rank with Google. Links from all other directories will help drive traffic to your site but won't affect your page rank unless they drive a tremendous amount of traffic.

Page Rank was once a very very important factor for gaining more visibility in search engines. However Page Rank doesn't posses the same weight "now" as it carried before. I've seen majority of the webmasters going after ways to generate & divert more traffic then to worry about Page Rank.

Its getting difficult to get sites indexed sites in directories, more over the directories that approve links are mostly paid. And the paid directories are not valuable in Google's eyes. So where the benefit lies?
