Default New Algorithm Measures Require New Means For Optimization

Authored by: Stoney deGeyter

A Snippet:

What does link aging accomplish? It fights link spam. Many link spammers try to achieve top rankings for their sites by getting hundreds, if not thousands, of links for a site virtually overnight, or by purchasing "ads" on high PR sites for the purpose of getting the link value.

Default Links & Their Relevance - But What's the Best Way to Keep Track

As someone who tries to play by the rules and is relatively new to SEO for my business, Google paying attention to relevancy is the only thing that really makes sense. That said, link aging algorithms seem like a bandaid rather than a cure, but hey I understand, and that will probably help me in the long term. However, how does a new small business survive and thrive in this? How do I know google is seeing my incoming links? What are the best ways to see if Google is really seeing them all (not showing all that many on the link:mysite function even though they exist, and have existed for some time)?

Any free and good tools out there to help with tracking incoming links and their aging? That way I can better forecast thinks like adwords campaign needs, and other marketing efforts until my link aging gets better.

I'd recommend StatCounter as a good free tool to track where traffic is coming from. Also, Link Popularity Checker at Uptimebot lets you check to see what pages search engines have indexed and the links they have found to your site.

Wow!

That is something to take in when doing seo. They are now using aging of backlinks.

Aaron Wall's Back Link Analyzer is also pretty good.
