Default New Article - Alexa Rankings

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/wha.../0913_jw1.html

Some Snippets:

"Why is it that one can have a higher traffic rank (according to alexa.com) than a competitor, yet the competitor has a higher ranking on Google?"

Default Toolbars

I always suggest to people I'm advising to install the Alexa toolbar on the computers they use and be sure to visit their sites frequently. It's a tiny bump, but a bump nonetheless. I have all the annoying toolbars on my FireFox installation, just in case. Of course, the effects one browser can have is minimalized the more popular the plugins become. But until then...

Measuring actual surfer behavior really has an intuitive appeal, doesn't it? I think we all know Google sees the "accelerating" potential

Can you share why you even care if your site has a better Alexa ranking? Not being sarcastic here, honestly curious. While some folks will check out Alexa to get an idea of traffic growth, most within the industry know that the rests are not only less than accurate, but are fairly easily tampered with.

I mean no harm will come by installing another toolbar...but really...why bother?

I can't answer for gobayview, but I can tell you that there are plenty of advertisers who believe Alexa stats mean something. Much like there are plenty that believe Google's toolbar PageRank means something.

As long as that advertiser believes, reality doesn't matter and Alexa can close some sales for you.

There are several ways to boost your alexa rating, we built software to increase alexa rating sending 20,000 hits/day to a website our websites have gone up several thousand percent since using it!!, it is not difficult and alexa is very easy to manipulate, Google is a different matter because it is not worth risking affecting Google page rank because of the importance of Google to so many business's.

Alexa rank is another marketing tool. It does nothing for your ranking in the search engines, and it even works backwards. But some people LOVE it.
