Very interesting from Matt Cutts. But can we trust what he says all the time? Thats his job, to not let us figure out exactly the algorithm for the serps.

I don't know about all the time but what he said about TLD's was pretty specific so I'll take that it's true.

I don't think Cutts lies, on the contrary, he's been very helpful over the years. He is the head of the spam team so it's in his best interest to be helpful but not overly so and keep an eye open for wrong doings.

He has been helpful. I have just read lots of material on how Google wants the serps to be as natural as possible and helping us determine what links to go after doesnt allow that. Although I agree with the coment on edu's, actual testing I have read contradicts some of the things Google would like us to believe.

It's so hard to "test" things online, we don't see and know what Google or any engine does, we only see what they want us to.

Here's three things about edu links...

1. For the most part, edu sites attract a lot of natural inbound links so the link juice that points into the site is spread to interior pages.

2. Authoratative sources link to edu pages so again, strong link popularity (link quality) flows into edu pages.

3. Most edu pages are content heavy which means lots of verbiage is being factored into the algo.

Add all 3 ranking factors together and it's no wonder edu pages show high pagerank and rank well for the most part.

hi
I don,t think so & even no one can think about that same matter you are talking about.
But you should search on the higher banners to get the right natural links.

Default I like the PR rank of the pages

Govt and EDU posts in blogs usually have good PR.

Put this query in Google and it will find you sites to post on

site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment” -”you must be logged in” -”comments closed” + NICHE KEYWORD

Hi! Just want to share to you what my friend did (he lives in the Philippines by the way, so application of the strategy may not be applicable.).

He used to work for a local Job Site, to increase their traffic he went to different municipalities and look for the office who handles the public employment assistance. He partnered with that office, part of the deal was inclusion of his website's link on their page. If the LGU office doesn't have an official website, then he'll provide them the site development (materials like images and seal of the mayor) will be provided by the LGU.
