Default Switching to a New Domain Without Losing Your Google Rankings

Full Text: http://www.searchengineguide.com/cla.../0816_sc1.html

Some Snippets:

"Unfortunately, when launching a new version of your site Google doesn't always seem to recognize that you've simply changed the URL of an existing site, and ends up subjecting the new domain to the aging delay as if it were a brand new out-of-the-box site. "

Also, what you can do, is just resolve your new domain name to the wright IP (the same as your old DN). Then, you'll get into the duplicate stuff : the old DN will remain indexed in Google, while the new one will get more and more knowned pages as his number of backlinks grows. This tactic could even be a booster for your ranking (as can be sometimes a 301). The only point is that the old URL will remain for a while in the index. but mutch more powerfull than before.. In fact, Google consider that it's the same website (command link: shows up the same results fot both domains).
I tested it on a website witch has changed DN in sept 2004 and the old one is still reactive in Google...

This is a silly, basic question, but to employ a redirect on a soon to be old website, do you need to pay for the old one to be hosted, in addition to the new one? I'm assuming you do, if you want to redirect interior pages...

Thanks.

Red face What if DN is same but all URLs change?

Our domain name will remain the same, but we are making all of our pages dynamic and therefore will be pulled from a database. Is the suggestion to keep both servers up and running for six months and have all the old web pages redirect to the new pages coming from the database?

Are you moving to a new server and creating all new pages?

Yes. Especially if you plan on doing redirects page to page.
