We found adwords way too expensive for us. We clean tile and shingle roofs in a 100 mile radius of Tampa Florida. Competitors were killing us, by clicking away on our ads, costing us a fortune!
So, what we did was target every search term people use to find a roof cleaner in their area, and made blog posts on a dedicated roof cleaning forum, to target those keywords!
The SEO Clout of these blogs on the dedicated roof cleaning forum are incredible!
In less then a month, nearly every post we have made is near, or at the top of whatever search string for roof cleaning we are targeting.

Personally, I seldom click on adword ads when I am shopping for something.
We are always number one organically for the search term "roof cleaning Tampa"
I have watched upteen adwords competitors come and go this year alone.
The adwords do not seem to bother us at all, and must not be working well for our competitors here in the roof cleaning business in Tampa either.
Seldom does any local competitor in my area stay with the adwords, for very long :)

Good for you.

I took a quick look around and you are in a very niche service. All the of the PPC campaigns that I saw were doing it wrong.. That may also be adding to your success.

I would not make such a blanket statement that PPC does not work as each niche has different variables that can change all that. For you in tampa florida an in the service you provide that may be the case today.

Keep up the good work!

Your method, posting on blog sites in related niche is a sound SEO strategy as well as posting on youtube with a nice little video and keyword rich URL are all elements to your success. The content of your website is a little more SEO than human readable.

I think you have done very well for a service that does not really have a product to show off rather a quality service. Well done!

Its not like which is good or important if you have high competitive keywords then you can use PPC for the traffic and ranking as it will take time to rank if you do SEO for hiogh competitive keywords and still you have patience you can do SEO. If your keywords having less competition then SEO is good strategy to rank.

I think you have to do both. Building a business around a traffic source that could die out for you any day (SEO) is not smart. But, if you can get the traffic then it is great.
It's important to develop many revenue streams with SEO, PPC, direct site links, mailings, word of mouth, social media etcetera. Diversify your traffic, just like with stocks.

Dont get me wrong. Website owners have to invest in SEO efforts whenever they create a page on their site & this can never stop. HOWEVER, how many of you have not devoted any time to CPC chasing / hoping / maybe even praying that your time spent on optimizing a page will pay off with the number one result in the SERP? More so, how many of you got it! There you are number one today, uh oh wait a minute, where is my number ranking a month later? Google, Yahoo, Bing .... reindexed and your number 5 or worse.

You have to combine SEO with PPC to be successful, to keep a constant flow of traffic you have to have PPC, otherwise all your eggs are in the SERP basket and you could be one new algorythum change away from no traffic.

Now here is the great thing that ties your efforts together. Do all those great things for SEO (proper page title, headline, content ...) and if your doing it correclty when you link your Adwords Ad to that page for the keywords you've chosen, you should immediatley have a good Quality Score. SEO Optimization and PPC do go hand in hand.

Keep striving for top organic results - we do! but we put much more effort into a sure thing PPC where we know we will get Page one showings over hoping that over time we get organic page one rankings.

I completely agree with you, PPC and SEO goes hand in hand. SEO gives long term benefits and take long time to give results, whereas PPC gives short term benefits and gives results quickly.

I think it is a great idea to start with adwords and then analyze the data and later to use that data in the SEO Campaign. Normally PPC is for short term and SEO is for long term
