Facebook Lawsuit - Is Social Networking Safe??

In a recent article today I found out that, Facebook has been hit with a class-action lawsuit. Couple of users have filed this lawsuit accusing Facebook of violating the Electronic Communications Privacy Act by scanning and exploiting the content of private messages sent via the Facebook platform without prior consent by users.

My question to everyone is: Has anyone ever felt that Facebook has been monitoring your private messages and revealing facts about you which you would not have revealed if you were aware about the monitoring? Are social networking platforms safe? Would you take up a paid service for your privacy?

I have not felt such thing yet. I also believe that FACEBOOK cannot do such activity. May be this lawsuit is filed just for popularity or other purpose.

There is nothing concrete out yet. We shall keep and eye.

Well I'm sure facebook will win this case if it is real. Even though facebook is a free social platform, you don't have to use it. It's THEIR website and they can do what they want. I'm not trying to start an argument, but what are these people posting pictures of or sending to their friends on facebook that has them in such an uproar?

"They're invading my privacy!" You made the account on your own free will and then you complain that your information is being stored on a database somewhere? No one complains about getting discount coupons for their favorite store when they get them in an email. Your information is stored on that stores database...

I could go on for hours, but I'll stop here lol :D

Great argument and I would agree with you... Why complain for privacy issues when you've been too noisy with your status updates? LOL! :D

Filing a lawsuit is a long way from winning a lawsuit.

Let me shed some light on the matter.

The point of my previous comment was that in order to prevail in such a lawsuit, I believe it is necessary to show how the actions caused harm. No question, it is probably unethical but where is the harm??
