Follow And No Follow Links

Do follow and no follow links affect my ranking ?

Only dofollow links affect your ranking, but nofollow can give you some traffic.

No follow links will not affect your ranking adversely but, the search engines give you credit for do follow links

Hi, it is interesting for me why some forums decided to become nofollow...because of spam? but if the modereator works good there is no spam on the forum...so can somebody explain me that?

Do follow is generally better for SEO efforts, but it really depends on what your purposes are.

Reason for no follow

No follow links discourage people from posting simply to insert a link to their own page.

Certainly true.

However....

All my sites are dofollow. Sure I get lots of spam (and delete the obvious spam - my favorite "I am being held by the Russian mafia and they will kill me if you don't allow this comment" - on the humanitarian level tempting but I got more than 20 of them from different "people") I do get some great comments. Do I really care if some people are abusing my sites? No. If I don't give dofollow backlinks why should I expect anybody else to do so?
