It very much depends how you mean that. Any content you claim as original should be exactly that. Writing a page about an article is ok, but changing a few words here and there is not all that ethical...

Anything produced by an individual automatically creates something called intellectual property rights. If you take an oriiginal article and simply change a bit here and there, then you are going to be infiringing their IPR.

Welcome cowren. :standingw

When someone asks me this question, I always advise them to write their own articles. You can get into some serious trouble doing what you're proposing. Rather than trying to sneak by and reword someone else's work, just write your own or pay someone to write it. To answer your question, yes, it could very easily be a violation of copyright law.

Hmmm.....if you read alot of books or articles on a subject long enough, you will find that most of what they say are similar. One thing I know is that you cant change the words of an article and claim its yours. However, you could take the idea and write it in your own words or style.

For example, I have some articles in my blog and other business forums, all written by me, only thing is, I took the idea (not the words) from someone else.

So feel free to take other people's idea but make sure you write it using your own words (Dont try to imitate others, have your own personal style).

There is one thing though, make sure you know well enough what you are writting about. Some people wrote articles but do not have the depth in the particular knowledge.

Good luck!

I'm in agreement with everyone who's posted above. You can certainly write about the same idea, but you really should write your own article as opposed to rewriting someone else's article.

It depends on a number of factors. Are you lifting any copy directly from the article? If you lift a direct quote, are you giving credit to the source?

This practice, quite frankly, is common. Rival newspapers will do it - though the reporter will do a good bit of his/her own work.

You could always contact the source of the article an inquire what its policy on reprinting an article is. The newspaper I work for allows organizations to reprint an article for free as long as it is not being used for direct monetary gains.

But generally speaking, as others here have suggested, I would go with writing your own article or paying someone to do it if having your own article on the subject is a must.
