View Full Version : Hourly ISP?

Does anyone have any recommendations for ISPs that sell hourly access across the US? CrossPaths.net used to provide this, but they dropped it.

Our high-speed access comes through our cable company and problems occur somewhat regularly. There is a lot of new construction in the area and lines get cut - at least that their excuse.

So, I don't want a full replacement, I just need a back up that I can use by the hour when needed.

Actually, I'd never heard about an hourly ISP.

If what you're looking for is dialup, something like Earthlink might do the trick. If what you want is hourly high-speed, I don't know of one.

Hi Diane,

It doesn't have to be high-speed, it can just be dial up. I just wanted an hourly option because I'm too cheap to pay monthly charges for a service when I won't know how often I'll need it.

Hi Robert. Well, sorry I can't help, but I'll keep in mind that hourly ISPs may exist.

I use Juno (http://www.juno.com/) when traveling and the hotel doesn't have high speed internet access. I use the free version and it works pretty good. Wouldn't want to upload files such as with web site modifications and such but works great for reading and responding to email, posting on forums, etc.

Free! You said my favorite word. :p I didn't realize anyone was doing this anymore. Cool, I will check it out.

Wouldn't want to upload files such as with web site modifications...

Is this just because it's slow, or is there some other reason?

It is dial up with ads. So when you are used to a broadband connection and then go to dial-up, it is a big difference. If I do make changes to a web site while using dial-up when I am out of town or something, I usually just go live on the site.
