Does anyone in the Forum have any experiences (good or bad) with Paypal? I visited their site and made a few calculations and thought it all seemed very expensive to use their services. Most of my overseas customers use Telegraphic Transfers to send me money. Anyone know of any better ways to send money - other than the usual Visa, Mastercard etc?

Hope you are all having a lazy weekend. I'm not! Household chores here as always!! How I hate cleaning out showers !!

I have used Paypal countless times for Ebay auctions and to pay others for advertising, etc. They are expensive, but I have had no problems with them.

I offer the option to pay for products on my website by Paypal, but have not had a single person use it as an option.

Wish I could help more!!!

Lazy weekend...NOT! I've been catching up on paperwork, cleaning house also, took my son shopping for school clothes and am trying to get new products online!

I've used PayPal for ages and all of my experiences have been positive.

Just signed up with Paypal earlier this year to accept credit card payments (I was previously limited to cash and checks).

It has worked out splendidly. Yes, there is a service charge for each transaction, but after I did a price comparison with a couple of other services, it turns out their service charges are pretty minimal.

I use PayPal to send and receive money and it works wonderfully for me. Been using them as one of my payment options for years. It surprises me that you'd say they are expensive. Maybe they are compared to wire transfers, but not compared to other payment options.

Merchant accounts and ClickBank are a good deal more expensive than PayPal. I use all three for different aspects of my business. I wish I could use PP for everything, but that won't work for my case.

Hi Everone,

An Email appeared in my inbox from this forum. So I figured I'd check it out.

I used PayPal for 3 sites and I've always had excellent service. Actually, they are one of the least expensive. Many of the others want a one time setup fee and their take percentage is higher in many cases.

I'm in the process of redoing our Web Site and am using Pay Pal's shopping cart.

I wrote a basic javascript shopping cart for the site before shopping carts were really popular. But why reinvent the wheel. However, one benefit of having a client side shopping cart is that any changes to an order can be easily modified locally and then sent to the secure server for processing. Whereas using a PayPal shopping cart requires more accesses to modify an order. Making a purchase should be as seamless as possible.

PayPal is ideal for one item purchases, especially the encrypted buy now buttons. For quantity discounts the code has to be modified, but they provide all of the javascript functions for it.

I use PayPal on occasion too. I've read the horror stories, but have never had a problem and don't think I know anyone who has.

The only real problem I have with PayPal is the fact that your email address has to be encoded into your pages; that means any email spammer bot can pick it up, after which it gets sold to more spammers.

The other issue is when you're selling something such as an e-book to be downloaded after the sale; the URL for the download page also has to be encoded into the page -- although I believe that there are some third party services that allow you to bypass that option.

PayPal solved its biggest problem, in my opinion, by ending the requirement that people be PayPal members in order to pay for items through a PayPal shopping cart. If they'd solve the two issues above, they'd solve a majority of the problems one encounters in using PayPal.
