The Successful Network Marketer
September 21, 2006

by Michael Orsini

What are the personal qualities needed to succeed in network marketing? Let's assume for the sake of argument that the particular company being promoted is a rock-solid, bona-fide opportunity: something worthy of your time and effort, something that offers the end consumer real value. In fact even with a great opportunity, nothing happens without the development of these personal qualities.

1. Be Coachable

Unless you are coachable and willing to admit you don't know everything about this industry, you will not go very far. The irony is that the more coachable you are, the more you will learn and the more you will attract like- minded people to your opportunity. This is exactly what you want because this creates a synergy that can really propel your organization forward.

2. Be Persistent

No matter how good your opportunity is, without persistant effort, your initial efforts will wither on the vine. When people say no to your business, don't take it personally. Often, they aren't really saying no to you, the timing just isn't right for them. This is a numbers game folks and the more people you get in touch with on a daily basis, (and there are alot of ways to do that!) the more likely you are to be successful.

3. Be Intelligent

Educate yourself on a daily basis about your opportunity or network marketing in general. Read books, listen to audios, watch videos. You may have heard this before but learners are earners and it's so true! Some people are under the mistaken illusion that education is expensive when in reality, it's ignorance that will actually cost you the most in this business or in life for that matter. You cannot put a price tag on the precious commodity of self-development for it will influence all your relationships and everything else that mysteriously "happens" in your life.

4. Be Disciplined

Do what you need to do, when you need to do it regardless of distractions or personal likes or dislikes. Be committed to doing what really needs to be done and simply repeat the process. This could involve the use of a daily "To Do List." Be organized, get things done one at a time and cross them off your list. This will give you a feeling of accomplishment which also helps to build your business.

5. Be Enthusiastic

IASM stands for I Am Sold Myself. Are you really sold on the value of your product or opportunity? If you aren't, you will never be successful for it is the sine qua non for success in this industry. If you're not already in a network marketing company, find something you really believe in and go online to see what companies market your interest.

6. Be Goal-Oriented

Establish a set of goals you want to accomplish with your company and make a committed effort in their direction. Goals are like magnets and they can pull you through the tough times. This takes the long-term view into account. Always keep your goals before you and see yourself accomplishing them one day at a time.

7. Be Responsible

Being responsible is really being accountable to yourself for any successes or disappointments you will most certainly encounter in your business. Don't blame other people for hard times and don't take all the credit for the successes. Remember, network marketing is primarily a TEAM business model and there is no "I" in TEAM. Respond to people with kindness and understanding, be sincere and have their best interests at heart. In fact, the more you are genuinely interested in the success of others rather than your own, the more successful and ultimately happier you will be.Remember that you can get everything in life you want by helping enough other people get what they want.

8. Be Reasonable

Get into the habit of being able to honestly and rigourously evaluate whether your actions are moving you in the direction of your goals or conversely, whether they're having the opposite effect. Then simply readjust your direction just like a sailboat does.

9. Be In Love

Be in love with the idea that your opportunity has the potential to give people more control over their lives, more time freedom, not to mention the real chance to develop themselves personally. Be in love with your company specifically and the industry in general. With the right company and alligned with the right people willing to train and work with you, the sky is the limit to what you can achieve in network marketing.
