No More Mommy Guilt by www.wahmwannabe.com Have you ever had one of those A-Ha feelings, of those life-altering moments when all of a sudden a light bulb goes off in your head and you finally get it? Ever since I started my online businesses, I have been torn between spending time building it and spending time with my family. When I was working on one of my websites, I felt guilty about not spending the time with my husband and daughter, when I devoted my time to them, I felt like I was neglecting my businesses. After all the idea behind them is to generate enough income, so I can leave my day job and ultimately have more time for my family. Throw housework into the mix and I was pretty much on a 24 hours a day guilt trip. Thankfully all that changed recently. Several factors came together producing the light bulb to finally go off. The first factor was an article I recently added to one of my websites. It is called “Are you Present with Your Child?” You can read it at www.kinderinfo.com/articles/are-you-present-with-your-child.htm. The article talks about how your child needs your full attention to feel loved. Do you check your email, work on an article, or keep an eye out for prospects while you are playing with your children? I used to do it all the time, and still do sometimes. Just make an effort to spend some time every day just devoted to your family. Don’t check your email; don’t get that load of laundry in. Focus on your family and give them the love and attention they deserve. But what about my business, you may ask. Our businesses are important to us, and we love to spend lots of time building them, networking with other moms and getting them involved in what we do. But just like any one else, we only get 24 hours in any given day, so we need to get the most out of the time we can spend building our businesses. “Work smarter not harder” as my friend Alice Seba says. How do we do this? Start by sitting down and evaluating what you do every day to build your business. How much time do you spend on each activity? Does doing this help your business? Are you attracting a steady stream of new prospects, are you booking parties, are you making sales? If not, cut back on the amount of time you spend doing this and focus on things that will help you propel your business forward. What do you spend a lot of time on that doesn’t get you the results you are looking for? I know I have spent a lot of time on those traffic exchanges and never got a single prospect from them. I joint message boards to post ads for my business opportunity and answered every single post from a mom looking for a way to work from home pushing my opportunity along with 50 other girls. We all tend to make the same mistakes in the beginning, but we get to the point where we need to evaluate what does and doesn’t work. So, how do we work smarter instead of harder? By putting all our efforts into those aspects of our business that give us the best results, by focusing our attention to what works and has worked for others. If you would like to hear more about how to focus your business, I recommend Kelly McCausey’s “The Power of a Focused Business”. She will show you how to “Laser Target Your Business” and make the most out of it. Above all, set some time aside each to devote exclusively to your family and to your business and make the most of it. Go take the kids to the park or to the pool and enjoy their company. Go on a date with your husband and rekindle that feeling you had when you first fell in love with him. When you work on your business, focus on what’s important and make the most out of the time you have set aside for it. You never know, but focusing on what you are doing at any given time, you may even find a little extra time in the day to spend just on you. Who would have thought that was possible?
